I used this union on my new 6 position valve. I recommend this for each of the valve openings. easy for future maintenance

This threaded end was undersize and required a o-ring to seal.

When looking for this item at local plumbing supplies, I was pretty much laughed at. The laugh is on them. I used two of these when installing a Hayward filter in the system. Their use reduces the amount of joints in the lines, shortens the lines by one adapter length on either side and allows for easy removal of the filter housing if necessary.

Exactly what I needed. I'm also very impressed with the shipping time. You cannot buy fittings like these at my local big box stores.
