Maytronics Activate 25 lbs Glass Filter Media, Fine

Activate glass media only lasted 5 years, not the 8-10 years we were told. I think the ad now even says you’ll NEVER have to change it. Not true. We got our new sand filter in April 2018. This June 2023, our pool water was so cloudy we couldn’t see bottom of pool, not even midway down no matter what I did. Spent hundreds of $$$ on chemicals, water (backwashed/rinsed many many times), electricity (pump on 24 hrs for many days) not to mention labor and stress with no success. Out of desperation we replaced Activate with new sand and behold our pool water cleared up overnight with 2 lbs of shock needed for our pool size. Just sharing because I’m disappointed that we spent all that extra money upfront thinking we won’t have to change it for at least double the lifetime of the significantly cheaper silica sand but it didn’t last as claimed. I priced how much Activate is selling for now and it costs at least more than double sand and other media out there. From experience, I would say it’s not worth its expensive price.

This is the only product I’ve ever purchased that delivers on every promise it makes and then some. I’ve been dealing with cloudy water for eight weeks, every test showed my chemicals were perfectly in balance. We were running our pump on high for 24 hours a day. I shocked the pool several times, and the water still didn’t improve. We replaced our sand in the middle of last season so our sand was new. I acid washed it for 8+ hours at the beginning of this season so it was clean. As a last ditched effort I removed all my sand and cleaned it by hand as well as inspected the internal parts - my sand wasn’t channeling, my port valve was in perfect shape so no water was bypassing being filtered, inspected and lubed up gasket, checked laterals for damage, none; and STILL - cloudy ass water. I resorted to using flocculant and vacuuming to waste and I was finally able to get my pool 90% clear - it lasted for a whopping 4 days and went right back to being severely cloudy. It was infuriating. My husband kept threading to poke a hole in the side of the pool and calling it a day, lol. Instead I decided to buy Dr. Dryden’s Activate and completely replace the sand. Within 24 hours our pool went from severely cloudy to a slight haze. As of now it’s been 9 days of having Activate and running our pump on low and our water is CRYSTAL CLEAR. It hasn’t been this beautiful or sparkling since the first season we opened. I’m beyond impressed. This product is worth every penny. I NEVER leave reviews. I read every review, but I myself never write any. That said, I really struggled to find reviews about this product from other pool owners, so for that reason I felt compelled to write this review. Best $356 dollars I’ve ever spent. Zero regrets.
