Hayward Universal Vari-Flo 2" Multiport Backwash Valve

I thought it was interesting when one of the reviewers pointed out that the view port was changed. I did not notice the change so I dug around to find out why.. Hayward switched the view port (sight glass) from real glass to high-strength plastic (polycarbonate/acrylic) for 3 structural and safety reasons: Resistance to Freeze Cracking: The old glass view ports were highly prone to shattering if water was left inside them during freezing winter weather. Plastic can expand slightly, making it much more durable against freeze damage Impact and Pressure Durability: If a tool drops on the valve or the system experiences a sudden spike in pressure, real glass can shatter explosively, which poses a safety risk. The new chemical-resistant plastic sight glass handles impact and high filter pressures safely. Preventing Stripped Threads: Plastic-to-plastic threading forms a much more reliable, leak-free seal against the main multiport valve body than glass-to-plastic threading. Their warranty department must have had enough hits for them to justify the switch. I think if you live in an area where freezing temperatures are less likely than the glass would be fine.

Not too hard to install. It required a snake of plumbing to replace an old slide valve that needed replacement. Its a little more functional than before. Solid and sturdy
