I recently had my backyard inground pool replastered. When the job was complete, the replastering company replaced my 2 old "slot-style" jet return covers with the "eyeball" covers that seem to be standard these days. My old slot-style covers had always achieved strong "circular" water motion in the pool as recommended for the most efficient function of the skimmer, and best overall water mixing. The new "eyeballs" were lousy at moving the the water in a "vortex"/circular motion, and left "dead spots" where I could plainly see the Chlorine floater stagnate and get "stalled" in one area of the pool for hours (until the wind moved it, apparently). I had the pool company replace my 2 jet covers with the SLOT-STYLE covers, and VOILA! I now have perfect "vortex' circulation back in my pool, with thorough water mixing and no "dead spots". It is now clear to me that the "eyeball"-type jet covers are best for spas, above-ground pools, and round pools. But for ANY IN-ground pool that is approximately rectangular, squarish or oval in shape, the slot-style jet returns are FAR better and more efficient. Not even close.
Working great exactly what I needed to direct water closer to wall and go into step area.
