I purchased my first strainer housing as a complete unit (housing, basket, lid, etc) over 20 years ago. I used and am still using the Hayward strainer as a a debris collector. The old models came with a flapper that helped me with priming the above ground pump that pulls water out of a 6000 gal man-made pond and past a UV light then threw 55 gal filters before going back into the pond by way of a waterfall. The strainer is still in use, in tandem with the newer strainer. Using them in tandem allows me to clean less often. At 70 years old I do everything I can to make life easier. The Hayward strainer is a great product, good quality and the 20 year old strainer is an exact copy of the new ones. It is nice to see that some people are smart enough to keep quality products instead of going the cheap route.
