California Energy Commission (CEC) and Replacement Pool Pump Motors

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has implemented regulations for pool pumps and residential replacement pool pump motors to promote energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of these products. According to Title 20, Section 1605.3(g)6 of the CEC, all pool pump motor drives that are sold with a variable-speed replacement dedicated-purpose pool pump motor must have the default speed setting of the control set at no more than 55 percent of the maximum operating speed of the motor. This ensures that the pool pump is not operating at unnecessarily high speeds, which can result in wasted energy and increased costs for pool owners.

Additionally, any high-speed override capability on these pool pump motor drives must be for a temporary period not to exceed one 24-hour cycle before automatically resetting to default settings. This ensures that any temporary need for high-speed operation is met without creating a long-term energy consumption problem.

Century Motors currently manufactures six pool pump replacement motor models that conform to the CEC standards:V-Green EVO Models EVC130, EVC165, EVC225, EVQ130, EVQ165, and EVQ225. These models are designed to meet the energy efficiency standards set forth by the CEC, making them an ideal choice for pool owners in California who want to reduce their energy consumption and environmental impact.

In addition to helping the environment, complying with CEC regulations can also help pool owners save money on their energy bills. By choosing an energy-efficient pool pump and motor, pool owners can reduce their energy consumption and lower their energy costs over time.

Pool owners in California should take note of these regulations and choose products that comply with them, such as the Century Motors models that meet CEC standards.
